Traveling north on the autobahn the cars were zipping along side the bus. No speed limit! Dave heaven! I have noticed that the only American car I have seen anywhere here has been a few Fords. No GM products. Mostly BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW. Most of the police cars are BMW.
Our first stop was Munster to visit a panzer/tank museum and on the side road there I kept seeing these pink trailers and I thought, oh how cute! Turns out that we were near an army base and those are legal prostitution trailers! It has been legal here since 1968.
The tanks were interesting as they could be thanks to a lively, very knowledgeable local tour guide. He was so excited to talk about each tank and had alot of statistics to share with us. What I learned was that the German tanks were built like a sexy BMW but they had many models out in the field and the parts were not interchangeable. Bad idea. The Russian tanks, although quite ugly and built very quickly, were one style and easy to repair. The Nazi tanks could be out of commission for weeks waiting for parts.
That was enough tank knowledge for me.
Arriving in the early evening at our hotel in Hamburg we had dinner and crashed early per usual. These days are jam packed and I think the tour company has put together a consistently paced, interesting program. No long lags of time between events.
Tomorrow we take a tour of Hamburg and a boat ride through the harbor. Dave and I went through this harbor 5 years ago on the Nat Geo northern Europe trip. As I remember it is a very busy commercial seaport.
